BENEFITS FROM ANESTHESIA-FREE RESSTORATIONS

SoleaIt allows fast, reliable and painless cavity preps. This improves the experience for both doctor and patient. The drill and shot are removed from routine procedures, making it easier for patients to have a more pleasant, less stressful visit.

The dentist finds it easier to treat patients who are not anxious. A shorter appointment time can also improve productivity as the doctor can see more patients in a day and perform more procedures in one session.

THE CASE: COMPOSITE CLASS II RESIN RESTORATION

A female patient aged 32 visited the clinic of Dr. Heath BrantleyRoutine examination. Radiographs revealed primary lesion interproximally. Patient was diagnosed with primary caries at tooth #5 DO.  The goal of the clinical procedure was to remove and then restore the tooth, while providing a positive patient experience. This patient had a difficult time staying calm. She was extremely anxious and needed to be coached throughout the procedure.

SOLEA CAVITY PREP

Solea prepared the tooth using a spot size of 1.25mm and a speed of 40-50%. Solea’s cutting speed is regulated with a variable-speed foot pedal that allows adjustment of energy from 0-100%.

The prep was traced first at 50% speed to ensure even ablation of the lesion’s enamel coronal. The speed was then reduced to 45% for a more comfortable cutting speed. The speed was reduced further to 35-40% after the dentin had been exposed. The preparation took only 2 minutes with the laser.

In just 6 minutes, the tooth was repaired using a sectional matrix system. The procedure was performed without the use of local anesthetic.

RESULTS

This case saw a shorter procedure time of less than 10 mins, compared to the 40-minute procedure using traditional tools. The patient’s occlusion was easily confirmed because the patient wasn’t numb, which potentially avoided a follow-up appointment for a bite adjustment. The patient was delighted with the experience.

A EXPERIENCE THAT MOVES PATIENTS

When patients think about going to the dentist, they think about what it’s like to have a filling. This perception influences many decisions such as which dentist they choose, if they accept a treatment and how long they stay with the office. It also dictates what they say about their experience to family and friends. Solea provides a pleasant, painless dental experience that eliminates the main causes of anxiety in patients (the drill and the needle).

Solea removes all obstacles that slow down dentists and limit what can happen in a single visit. There is no need to calm patients, administer the anesthesia and wait for it to kick in, or schedule multiple visits for multi-quadrant dental care. Solea allows dentists to simply meet patients, start treatment, and then leave.

Less stress, higher production, happier patients – that’s what Solea brings to a dental practice.
